Turkish Citizenship by Marriage: A Legal Guide
Getting married to a Turkish citizen can open the door to acquiring Turkish citizenship by marriage, but it’s not an automatic process. According to Article 16 of the Law No. 5901, the marriage must last at least three years and meet certain legal conditions, such as:
- Living together as a family,
- Maintaining the integrity of the marriage,
- Not posing any threat to national security.
Even after applying, if the Turkish spouse passes away, the application remains valid. And if the marriage ends by court order after citizenship is granted, the acquired citizenship stays valid—provided the marriage was in good faith.
Since the process includes legal evaluations and official documentation, consulting with a Turkish immigration lawyer is highly advised.
